Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention. (Sir Francis Bacon)

Love in the Afternoon (Lisa Kleypas)

Once upon a time, a young girl does a favor for a friend by writing to her friend's fiance. The fiance is a soldier away at work, and the friend finds it tedious trying to figure out what to say to him. When the fiance responds, the young girl continues to write to him.

The rest of the story is obvious. But Lisa Kleypas writes wonderfully eccentric characters, and this is a fun book to read.
