Everyone knows J. K. Rowling wrote the Harry Potter series. She also wrote The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which is a short book of wizardry tales that was published in 2008, with the proceeds going to the Children's High Level Group. (Rowling was a co-founder of this charity, which helps needy children across Europe.)
The book contains five short stories, all of which are very simple but carry message worthy of any morality tale (virtue is rewarded while wickedness is punished). I especially liked that the stories point out that magic does not automatically ensure happiness.
Each story is followed by an scholarly analysis presented by Albus Dombledore. I think I enjoyed these even more than the stories -- although "he has a hairy heart" is destined to become a part of my vocabulary.
