A Clue for the Puzzle Lady (Parnell Hall)

As I read the first couple of chapters, I kept thinking that I was going to give up and return this book to the library without finishing it. I don’t know why; it just seemed like the author was trying too hard to be clever and I wasn’t enjoying the characters enough. But since I didn’t have anything else in the house to read that I hadn’t read at least a dozen times, I kept on. And I’m glad I did. While the plot was every bit as predictable as I had thought it would be, the characters finally grew on me and I ended the book liking everyone in it. I think I would even like to do the crossword puzzle included in the book, if an earlier library patron hadn’t beaten it to me.
